Beta Testing of Panorama 5.5 for Windows Begins
It’s been about seven weeks since my last blog post
about Panorama 5.5 for Windows. In that time a
tremendous amount of progress has been made. Several
dozen issues have been resolved, and in fact at the
moment there are only about a dozen known issues (of
course we expect this list to grow with minor issues
as beta testing continues and expands).
One big milestone that has been successfully passed is getting Panorama 5.5 to install and run on Windows 7. This turned out to be a bigger job than we first imagined, but it works well now. (As to whether flocks of XP users will upgrade to Windows 7, I have no idea. Either way we’ve got you covered, as Panorama 5.5 will run on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.)
The early stages of beta testing have begun, and at least one major third party Panorama application (one with several dozen databases and loads of custom programming) is largely running on the new PC version. So far beta testing has been limited to a handful of individuals, but the beta test program will be expanding soon, so if you signed up earlier but haven’t heard from us, watch your e-mail for further information in the near future.
At the current rate of progress we should be able to make available “preview” versions of Panorama 5.5 for Windows in a few weeks. We know that some of you want to get your hands on the software as soon as possible, even if not quite all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. Over the past decade we’ve had “preview” versions of Panorama 4.0, 5.0, 5.5 and Panorama Enterprise, so many of you are already familiar with this idea. We would like to have the “preview” version available before Windows 7 ships, and at the moment it looks like that is probably possible. Watch this blog for additional progress reports in the upcoming weeks.
